About Image Editor

Image Editor is a free web app for creating and editing photos and images. It runs in your browser, with nothing to install and no sign-up required for files on your computer. The editing workspace is powered by Pintura, a commercially licensed image-editing component from PQINA.

Your image is processed in the browser instead of being uploaded to an Image Editor server. Google sign-in is requested only when you choose a Google Drive action, and the limited drive.file permission lets the app work with files you select or create - not everything in your Drive.

What you can do

  • Open JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, GIF, HEIC/HEIF, TIFF, and supported SVG images from your computer or Google Drive.
  • Crop, rotate, flip, filter, fine-tune, annotate, decorate, fill, frame, redact, and resize an image.
  • Create a new transparent or colored canvas in a preset or custom size.
  • Save a newly rendered PNG, JPEG, or WebP with common source metadata left out.
  • Update an eligible file on your computer or in Google Drive, or download a separate copy.
  • Recover unsaved edits after an interruption when browser storage is available.

How Image Editor works

Opening, decoding, editing, and rendering happen on your device in the browser. A Google Drive image you can edit autosaves as you work; an image from your computer is written only after your first manual save, and it autosaves from then on. A recovery draft may also update in local browser storage, but a draft never overwrites the image on your computer or in Drive.

When you use Google Drive, the image travels directly between your browser and Google through Google's APIs.
