About Image Editor

Last updated: 2026-08-22

Image Editor is a free in-browser editor for images and photos. It runs in your browser with nothing to install and no sign-up required for local files. Open images from your computer or Google Drive, then crop, rotate, resize, filter, fine-tune, annotate, decorate, fill, frame, redact, and export with the licensed Pintura editing component.

Image Editor is designed with privacy in mind. Your files are processed in your browser. A Google sign-in is needed only when you use Google Drive, and that access uses the limited "drive.file" scope - only the specific files you pick or create, never your whole Drive.

About Visware

Image Editor is a product of Visware, a small independent software company based in Boulder, Colorado. Visware was founded in 2006 and focuses on building simple, private, browser-based productivity tools. You can learn more about Visware at visware.com.

Leadership

Image Editor is built and maintained by its Founder and Principal Engineer. The small-team approach allows us to focus on product quality, privacy, and responsiveness to user feedback.

What You Can Do

  • Open JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, GIF, HEIC, TIFF, and SVG images from your computer or Google Drive
  • Edit with crop, rotate, resize, filters, fine-tuning, annotation, decoration, fill, frames, and redaction
  • Export newly rendered PNG, JPEG, or WebP files with common source metadata removed
  • Save back to the original file on your computer in Chromium browsers, back to Google Drive, or as a downloaded copy
  • Recovery drafts in your browser help protect unsaved edits from a reload or crash when storage is available
  • Runs in current versions of Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and Safari, plus Chromium-based browsers such as Opera, with no plugin or extension required
  • Optionally install the Drive integration from Google Workspace Marketplace when the Image Editor listing becomes available

Our Approach

Image Editor is a web app, not a download. Opening, decoding, editing, rendering, and saving happen in your browser. Image pixels are not uploaded to an Image Editor server.

When you use Image Editor with Google Drive, we use Google's official APIs and the limited "drive.file" scope to open and save only the files you select or create. The file contents themselves pass through your browser only.
